The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the main airport in Malaysia. It is not technically in Kuala Lumpur despite carrying the name. It is 45 kilometers from the city but it is the city’s gateway for international and some local flights.

The site officially dedicated to the airport occupies 100 square kilometers and many regard it as one of the largest sites on earth dedicated to an airport. A mega undertaking to expand the airport will see KLIA have no less than 5 runways and two main terminals each with its own two satellite terminals.

At its end, the project will see the airport handle at least 100 million passengers per year smoothly. Today, KLIA is the leading airport in passenger numbers in the world handling tens of millions arrivals and departures in the last few years.

KLIA2 is a terminal dedicated to the ever growing low-cost air transport destined for Kuala Lumpur. This terminal is about two kilometers away from the main terminal. It has its own runway and control tower.

Expansion is ongoing and it is expected to process over 45 million passengers when complete. It is the largest terminal dedicated to, low cost flights in the world.

  • KLIA Transit: This is a commercial rail service between the airport and KL Sentral. Unlike the Ekspres, this service has scheduled stops at Salak Tinggi, Bandar Tasik Selatan and Putrajaya Cyberjaya. The ride takes 35 minutes and 39 minutes from KLIA and KLIA2 respectively.
